Simulating deployment of genetic gain in a radiata pine breeding program with genomic selection

چکیده
Abstract Genomic selection (GS) is currently being used in the New Zealand radiata pine ( Pinus D. Don) breeding program to accelerate genetic gain. GS also has potential deployment of gain production forest through early selection. The increased rate cycle will need be transferred more quickly realise that population. selections have lower accuracies than based on phenotypic data as practised; however, it unknown how this affect from GS-based deployment. Moreover, census size and turnover optimised cope with influx new marker-based selected material into a commercial orchard. We utilised stochastic simulation approach investigate these concepts, comparing three scenarios: half-sib open-pollinated orchards (OP), full-sib control-pollinated (CP) clonal somatic embryogenesis. When accounting for time, genomic OP, CP pathways by 9.5%, 15.9% 44.6% respectively compared optimal orchard scenario would genomic-selected control-pollination low n = 40, males females combined), female (5%) high male (15–25%). This scheme balances seed yield while moderating inbreeding.

Genetic Gain and Inbreeding from Genomic Selection in a Simulated Commercial Breeding Program for Perennial Ryegrass.
Genomic selection (GS) provides an attractive option for accelerating genetic gain in perennial ryegrass () improvement given the long cycle times of most current breeding programs. The present study used simulation to investigate the level of genetic gain and inbreeding obtained from GS breeding strategies compared with traditional breeding strategies for key traits (persistency, yield, and fl...
متن کاملSelection on Expected Maximum Haploid Breeding Values Can Increase Genetic Gain in Recurrent Genomic Selection
Genomic selection (GS) offers the possibility to estimate the effects of genome-wide molecular markers, which can be used to calculate genomic estimated breeding values (GEBVs) for individuals without phenotypes. GEBVs can serve as a selection criterion in recurrent GS, maximizing single-cycle but not necessarily long-term genetic gain. As simple genome-wide sums, GEBVs do not take into account...

A deterministic model based on the gene flow method, considering the features of Iranian Holstein cattle population, was implemented in this study to evaluate the effect of altering the number of age-classes in the dams of future sire (DS) path and the number of dams required for breeding a young bull (YB), to be evaluated as future sire, on genetic gain and resultant economic efficiency of a g...
متن کاملImproving Genetic Gain with Genomic Selection in Autotetraploid Potato.
Potato ( L.) breeders consider a large number of traits during cultivar development and progress in conventional breeding can be slow. There is accumulating evidence that some of these traits, such as yield, are affected by a large number of genes with small individual effects. Recently, significant efforts have been applied to the development of genomic resources to improve potato breeding, cu...
